Live Product Options vs Customily: Which Personalizer Fits?

By Cloudlift, the makers of Live Product Options. This is our own comparison, not an independent ranking; weigh it accordingly. Updated September 14, 2026.

Choosing a Shopify personalization app starts with what you need customers to do. Some products need a few extra choices. Others need measurements, rules and a calculated price. And some start with artwork that must reach a printer or a fulfillment partner after checkout.

Live Product Options is our first pick when product options, connected rules, custom calculations and visual personalization need to work together. Customily deserves a closer look when building reusable artwork and preparing it for production are the main jobs. Both can personalize products, so the choice goes beyond which app can put a name on an image.

Product options, personalizer or configurator: what do you need?

Say you sell a necklace. Choosing gold or silver is a product option. Adding a name makes it personalized. Showing that name on the pendant is a live preview. "Product customizer" is a broad term that can cover all of these changes.

A product configurator goes further: it connects the choices and their rules. Selecting one material may reveal different finishes. Entering dimensions may change the price. A field may appear only when the customer chooses engraving.

LPO covers simple forms and more involved configurations. Customily combines customer choices with a design editor and production tools. These categories overlap; the useful question is which workflow matters most for your products.

Three differences that matter

Options and measurement-based pricing Input fields, conditional choices and a separate Formula extension Options and conditional logic documented; an equivalent measurement formula was not verified Start with LPO for a product priced from dimensions and connected choices. Ask Customily to demonstrate the same calculation before ruling it out.

Customily Shopify app listing

Customily listing captured September 14, 2026. Its current offering includes design tools and production features; the sections below explain which details were inspected.

Where we would start with LPO

Say you sell custom-sized cushions. Buyers upload a photo, enter dimensions, choose fabric and add piping. Some fabrics allow different finishes. The price depends on size and the extras selected.

Here, personalization is one part of the product. You also need to collect valid choices and calculate the charge. LPO's dimension inputs, conditions and Formula extension give us a documented reason to try it first. Its product templates include examples that combine uploaded designs and dimension-based pricing.

You can also use LPO for a much simpler setup: a gift message, a finish or an optional accessory. Live preview is optional. You do not need to build a visual design just to collect a customer's choices.

That flexibility is the case for LPO. It does not prove that Customily cannot build your configuration, or that LPO will always be quicker to set up. We have not completed a matching measurement-pricing test in Customily.

One limit matters for quantity-based pricing: LPO's formula documentation says changing quantity in the cart does not recalculate a product-page formula. Check the documented quantity-discount approach if that is how you charge.

For engraved gifts, compare the input controls

A name field looks simple until a buyer enters a long name, an unsupported character or text that does not fit the engraving area.

LPO's inspected settings included length limits, pattern checks, cleanup and a custom validation message. Its text-price menu also exposed a per-letter charge. These controls let you explain acceptable input before the order reaches production.

LPO text length, cleanup and validation settings

LPO editor, September 9: length, pattern, cleanup and validation-message controls were visible. This screenshot establishes available settings, not a passed engraving or checkout test.

Customily also documents text restrictions. Its inspected panel showed text-input settings, including prefix and suffix controls. A sample text change appeared in the editor preview.

Customily text input settings

Customily editor, September 9: the inspected text settings. We did not complete the same storefront and checkout checks across both apps.

For ordinary engraved names, we would trial LPO first for its combination of input rules, optional preview and pricing controls. But per-letter pricing is not exclusive to LPO: Customily documents extra charges using an add-on Shopify product.

Where Customily earns its place

Now imagine a cushion design built from illustrated family members, names and a map. The work starts with the design rather than the measurements.

Customily's inspected menu included maps, calendars and puzzle tools. Those are concrete reasons to evaluate it for a specialty artwork catalog. Menu availability does not establish that every output works for your product, so try the design you intend to sell.

Customily specialty design tools

Customily editor, September 9: curved text and specialty tools were visible. We did not test every tool shown in this menu.

Both apps support curved text. That alone is not a reason to choose Customily. LPO's support was confirmed by Cloudlift; it was not exercised in this inspection.

For production, Customily documents PDF, EPS, Adobe Illustrator, PNG, JPG and DXF output. Some embroidery formats require a connected provider account. LPO's Export extension lists PDF, SVG, PNG and JPEG. If your equipment needs a specific format, check it before choosing.

Customily also supports your own products and in-house fulfillment. It is not limited to print-on-demand stores. Its supplier connections are useful when they match your workflow; exporting an image by itself does not replace an automated fulfillment connection.

AI: compare what it helps you do

LPO's built-in AI assistant can help create a setup from a description and adjust styling or preview placement. It is documented on all subscription plans. You still need to review the result, and image operations use credits.

LPO also lists MCP compatibility, which lets compatible external assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT connect to supported app functions. We did not complete an external-assistant workflow in this comparison. Its separate AI image extension is for customer-facing image generation and editing.

Customily's current Shopify listing advertises AI mockups, image effects and filters. Those creative tools serve a different purpose from configuring option rules. Neither an AI badge nor an MCP mention proves that an app is easier for every merchant.

Pros and limitations

Live Product Options

  • Best fit: simple choices that can grow into products with conditions, calculations and previews.
  • Useful strength: detailed text controls and documented formulas that reference option values.
  • Limitation: Formula, Export, Quantity, Bundle and AI are separate extensions. Lower subscription tiers have order allowances, and image AI uses credits.
  • Check before choosing: your artwork format, cart-quantity behavior and any supplier handoff you depend on.

Customily

  • Best fit: reusable personalized designs with specific production-file or supplier requirements.
  • Useful strength: specialty design tools and a wider documented selection of export formats.
  • Limitation: personalized-item fees sit on top of the subscription. An equivalent measurement-pricing configuration was not verified in our research.
  • Check before choosing: whether its design workflow is necessary for a basic options form and whether your exact production connection is supported.

Starting prices and the limits that matter

Monthly USD pricing checked September 14, 2026. These starting subscriptions do not include the same capabilities.

Pricing question Live Product Options Customily
Starting paid subscription Startup: $9/month, with a 100-order monthly allowance $49/month, plus applicable personalized-item fees
Free access Free while building your store; not unlimited free selling Free for development stores
Trial 14-day paid-plan trial 9-day trial
Advanced costs Formula, Export, Quantity, Bundle and AI: $9/month each Item fees currently range from $1 to $0.10, depending on the applicable volume tier
What to count Your LPO order allowance and required extensions Unique personalized items, not simply orders or the quantity of identical copies

Customily's fee rules distinguish five copies of the same personalization from five different personalized items. That matters when estimating a bill. LPO's base price also does not include every advanced extension, so compare the tools your product actually needs.

LPO has the lower starting subscription here. That is useful, but the stronger reason to choose it is a fit with your option rules and configuration needs. A production connection you rely on can matter more than the starting price.

Should you switch or stay?

Stay with Customily if its designs, files and production connections already run your business well. A lower starting subscription is not enough reason to rebuild a working fulfillment process.

Trial LPO if you mostly need customer choices, dimensions, conditional extras and calculated prices, with personalization as part of that setup. Rebuild one real product first. Check long names, the preview, the cart total, the order details and the file your production team receives.

Those are suggested acceptance checks, not tests we completed for this article.

Which app would we try first?

For a few extra product choices, or a more involved setup that combines rules, calculations and a preview, we would start with Live Product Options. You can begin with a simple form and add the tools your products need.

For a catalog built around specialty artwork and connected production, we would evaluate Customily first. Confirm the exact design, export format and supplier route before committing.

Common questions

Can LPO personalize products, or is it just an options app?

It can do both. LPO supports customer inputs and conditional choices, as well as text and image previews. Formula and Export extensions cover additional calculation and artwork requirements.

Does Customily support conditional options?

Yes. Its documentation covers showing and hiding choices based on other inputs. Conditional logic is not exclusive to LPO.

Which would we try for custom-sized products?

LPO is our first trial when customer-entered dimensions and other choices determine the price. We have not verified an equivalent Customily formula workflow; ask for a demonstration before treating it as unavailable.

How we compared the apps

This is a Cloudlift editorial comparison. We reused selected editor observations from September 9 and listing screenshots captured September 14, 2026. Pricing, Customily's current listing and export documentation, and LPO's formula and AI-assistant documentation were rechecked September 14 for this revision. Other linked documentation comes from the earlier research.

We did not complete matching checkout, export-quality, fulfillment, speed or conversion tests. Observed controls and documented features are labeled separately. An unverified feature is an open question, not an absent feature. The banner is an illustration, not an app-generated product or test result.
